I arrived in Arkansas Wednesday night to attend the ARA conference. I learned this afternoon that our dear Carolyn had passed away. I have such fond memories of Carolyn and working with her. In 1995 when I became Arch Ford's reading specialist, Carolyn guided me, pushed me, encouraged and supported me in my development to work with our schools. She was ALWAYS there to listen and help solve problems. We spent many an afternoon sitting on the back steps of the office building discussing our kids and "just life". I feel very, very sad tonight. Although I have been retired over 3 years, I have spent time this afternoon reflecting on what a special person and friend she was to me. Mava Barfield, Arch Ford 1995-2007. Moody, Alabama
